Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion

Parents requesting the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion for their children are required to submit an Application Form to the Parish Priest who will conduct an informal interview with the family concerned at a mutually convenient time. Parents are also required to attend a series of classes with their children and must attend mass regularly on Sundays bringing with them the children who are preparing for these Sacraments. The children will be given cards which they will need to get signed after Mass either by a Catechist or the Parish Priest, or if you attend Mass at a different parish, by the Priest there.

Preparation for the Sacraments
of Reconciliation and Eucharist
at St Simon Stock Church Walderslade 2019/2020

Dear Parents

We are pleased to inform you that the preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist will start soon in our Parish of St Simon Stock in Walderslade. If you wish to enrol your child on this course your child need to be in Year 3 or above. The preparation is only for those children who are baptised Catholic and the preparation requires permanent assistance and cooperation of those of the parents who are Catholic. Therefore, please provide a Baptism Certificate for your child.

Please, complete an application form and bring it to the Parents’ Meeting only if you meet or are willing to meet the expectations of the *Christian life and Catholic upbringing of your children* presented to you in the last paragraph of this letter. The Parent’s Meeting is to be held on either Tuesday 24th September or Friday 27th September 2019 at 7.00 pm in St Simon Stock Church. It is enough to attend only one of these meetings. Please, do not bring your children to this meeting.  Also, please note that applications will not be accepted either before or after these meetings and one parent of each child must hand the form personally to myself.

Application forms are available in the church lobby or you can download here.

There will be a “Getting To Know You” meeting on Tuesday 8th October at 6.00 pm for parents and children and at this meeting you will be given the dates for each session and other important dates for your diaries. We will also give you the structure of the preparation programme.

By *Christian life and Catholic upbringing of children* the Church understands such a relationship with God and the Church in which our knowledge of faith, receiving Sacraments, moral life and prayer forms us into Christ’s Disciples, who are happy and give a good example to others in this life and are hoping to meet God in heaven. Therefore, Catholics in their family life are expected to pray personally/together every day, participate at Catholic Mass every Sunday and give to each other an example of moral life, free of sin. Myself, the Catechists and members of our parish are happy and ready to appreciate your current efforts or help you grow in faith and belonging to Christ as long there is a good will in your hearts. We have already started praying for you and your children, and are looking forward to meeting you at the preparation.

Have faith, take courage and open your hearts to Christ even more

Fr Bart, Your Priest, along with the Catechists Team
