Church Choir and Music

Adult Choir

The Choir at St Simon Stock Church is a group of music lovers who sing every Sunday to lead the Congregation at the 11.00 am Mass and other solemnities celebrated in the church.  Every Sunday we have a Sung Mass and the choir prepare the hymns and a motet from their rich repertoire. The Liturgical Year gives them the opportunity to sing the greatly loved Easter and Christmas music which does demand great commitment from all our members.

The choir rehearse every Thursday evening at 8.00 pm for about an hour in the church. They are a very friendly group always ready to welcome new members. If you would like to join them, there is no audition process and you don’t need to read music, just speak  to our Choir Mistress and Manager Josie Ryder  after the 11.00 am Mass on Sunday or call her on 07915601076.

The motto of our choir: Using your singing voice to praise God is “to pray twice”!

Our Choir is also available to sing at Funerals and Weddings. Josie will discuss/advise on appropriate details.

PLEASE NOTE THAT DURING THE CURRENT CORONAVIRUS CRISIS ALL CHOIR’S ACTIVITIES HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED. THANK YOU

Children’s Choir

The St Simon’s Junior Choir has been going for over 8 years and we have had a succession of enthusiastic and talented youngsters coming into Church on a Friday afternoon from 4.30 to 5pm to sing a varied assortment of Church music.  During the last year they have sung music by Vaughan Williams, Duruflé and Tallis, as well as a collection of lighter, more “happy-clappy” pieces and some familiar tunes with more spiritual words.  Comments received from members of the congregation suggest that people like to hear the children and find their singing inspiring.  We are always looking for new members to join us and God willing, it is hoped that the choir will be blessed with some new recruits to carry on its worship here at St Simon’s.  If your child is interested in joining the Children’s Choir please contact Mrs Val Galliers on 01634 863359 or after 11am Mass on a Sunday.
