RCIA – Information to present at AGM March 2022
On 3rd April 2021, at the Easter Vigil, the parish of St Simon Stock welcomed with great joy, one man fully into the Catholic Church, where he received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion. This was a most joyous occasion indeed as it was our first Easter Vigil to be celebrated by Fr Pawel in our parish and also the first Easter Vigil since ‘Lockdown’.
The celebration followed six months of preparation by the candidate and due to the restrictions of face-to-face meetings during those months, was carried out by the Archdiocese of Southwark via zoom. The course was called ‘Evangelium’ and ran on a Sunday evening between September2020 and March 2021. MW also joined the course as a catechist.
As we moved into Lent 2021, we invited our candidate to join us on zoom over three sessions, to prepare him for the Scrutinies, where we took a deeper look at three pieces of scripture from the Gospel of John. Two of our wonderful parishioners from the 2019/2020 RCIA course also joined us to support our new candidate and his sponsor.
It was an unusual year and an unusual way to prepare, but under the circumstances we adapted as well as we could.
2021/2022 RCIA has seen a dry season with no new enquirers but hopefully a new course can start in the Autumn of 2022. As of yet there have been no formal conversations between Fr Pawel and the catechists MW and DS.
Please keep us in your prayers.
