AGM First Reconciliation and Holy Communion report

Our aims /objectives

These are and will always be to work with the parents helping to introduce their children to Jesus in and through these amazing Sacraments, to enhance their understanding of the great love that Jesus has for them. As catechists we see this as a very precious privilege helping them to find in Jesus a friend for life.

Organisation

Each year we meet to review, change and amend the programme as needed. Father has introduced some encouraging ideas with gifts that tie in with the course and the children are really happy to have their cards signed each week after Mass. With Father at the helm the reception of the Sacraments has become more family orientated and we are always on the look out for parents who may wish to become more involved.

UPDATED REPORT ON THE FIRST HOLY COMMUNION COURSE 2019/2020

Due to the Corona virus all classes ceased in April 2020.

Permission was given through both the government and the Diocese in July to hold the First Holy Communion Masses.  Father Bart called a meeting of catechists and a plan was put forward meeting all the health requirements in the Diocesan Guidelines.  The office contacted all families involved offering a ‘catch-up’ plan followed by rehearsals, confession and actual Mass.  37 families [39 children]  accepted the offer

All families have completed the course.

14 Have already made their 1st Holy Communion.

We anticipate 4 more on the 15th August

And the remaining 13 next week end.

We have had a great response and according to the comments from the parents, each event has been really special for all concerned.

ST SIMON STOCK PARISH A.G.M  2020 – 2022

PREPARATION FOR THE SACRAMENTS OF RECONCILIATION AND THE  HOLY EUCHARIST

In 2020/21 44 children completed the preparation these Sacraments.

Reconciliation was completed and received in the usual manner.

Covid restrictions only permitted small groups in the church which resulted in the celebration of six ‘First Holy Communion Masses’. One family decided to wait for 2022.

Numbers in groups for 2021/2022 were restricted by law and so the actual format was changed.                                                                                                 To limit  the numbers as required the parents were excluded , however a ‘Whats App’ support group was set up and has been well used.                                                                                                               This year 54 children have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation and are currently preparing to receive the Sacrament of The Holy Eucharist. Four Masses are planned with a Thanksgiving Mass on the Feast of Corpus Christi.
