St Simon’s Junior choir is reaching the end of its 10th Year and we hope to mark this anniversary with a celebration later this year. We have had a succession of
enthusiastic and talented youngsters coming into church on a Friday afternoon after a hard day’s work at school to sing a varied assortment of church music.
During the last year we have sung music by Vaughn Williams, Duruflé, Tallis and SS Wesley as well as lighter more “happy clappy” pieces and some familiar
tunes with spiritual words. The choir has sung at 11am Mass on the third Sunday of each month, Easter Sunday and the Advent Carol Service. They have also sung carols at their regular spot at the Poachers Pocket Restaurant on the Sunday before Christmas.
I have had comments from the congregation which suggest that people like to hear the children and 5nd their singing inspiring. I hope that this will con”nue
to be the case and that the Junior Choir will s”ll have a place in the worship at church. Our membership is low at present, however the youngsters we do have, have excellent abilities and sing enthusiastically and accurately. Even the newest tiny members contribute well and although limited in numbers the choir produce a good sound.
